About

Umma University Library houses learning and research information resources in both English and Arabic languages. The library has a large collection of both print and electronic medium. Print resources are organized through the Library of Congress Classification System.

The library services are fully automated using KOHA Library Management System URL (https://lib.umma.ac.ke) Umma University Library is a member of Kenya Library and Information Services Consortium (KLISC) which enables library users’ access thousands of Electronic journal titles and articles, and tens of databases.

E-Resources are accessed through the Digital library and various Wi-Fi hot points. All library resources are properly secured by a Smart Library RFID Solution. The Library has qualified and adequate staff who are always ready and willing to give the best services to the users.

LIBRARY RULES AND REGULATIONS

Persons who wish to use the library must be registered members and should familiarize and abide by the library rules and regulations.

University ID card is also your library card. Always show proof of membership before entering the library

Briefcases, bags, overcoats, hats etc, should be put in the Left Luggage Area. However, the

universitywillnottake responsibility of loss or damage of personal property

Order and silence must be maintained in the library at all times

Respect Library resources, equipment, and facilities. The Libraries treats theft/attempted theft, willful mutilation or defacement of library materials or property as an offense. Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against the offender.

Observe restrictions on noise, food, drink, and cell phone use.

Computers are provided for research and learning purpose, any attempt to deliberately tamper with the configuration of library workstations is prohibited.

Treat library staff and other users courteously.

CIRCULATION SERVICES

A valid library card must be presented in order to borrow materials. The person named on the card is responsible for all library transactions made with the card. The loss or theft of a card must be reported immediately to the Circulation staff to avoid other person from using it.

Only registered members are allowed to borrow information resources.

No books or other resources shall be removed from the Library without being appropriately issued.

Any item loaned to a user may not be transferred to another person. The loaned item

remainstheresponsibility of the borrower until it is appropriately returned to the Library.

LOAN PERIODS

Undergraduate Students:

2 items for a period of 2 weeks

Academic Staff And Postgraduate Students:

4 items for a period of 1 month

Non-teaching staff:

2 items for a period of 2 weeks

FINES

Borrowed items not returned on the due date will attractoverduefines as indicated below:

Long Loan:- Kshs 10/= per day

Short Loan:- Kshs 10/=per hour

Failure by any user to pay fines or other charges levied in accordance with these Regulations may result in suspension of borrowing privileges and/or exclusion from the Library.

CLEARANCE

All registered library members MUST clear with the University Library at the expiry of their membership.

Members of the Library MUST return all borrowed materials to the Library before they leave, withdraw or resign, regardless of due dates.
