Umma University’s philosophy comes from the meaning of its name “Umma” which means people or community in Swahili and Arabic. Umma University is the University of the People and community service is almost a requirement contributing to the final grade of students.
Students and staff are required to participate in various endavours that contribute to the overall welfare of the community within and outside the university.  Such endavours are not only occasional high visibility actions but regular contact with the community including inviting community members for seminars, public lectures and workshops on pertinent issues, sharing knowledge, voluntary service and sharing essentials like water and other resources.
