Conference Synopsis

The International Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation for Sustainable Development of Dryland Environments will be hosted jointly by Umma University (UMMA) and the South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) under the umbrella of Kenya DAAD Scholars Association (KDSA) and will take place from November 19th– 23rd, 2018. The five day’s event will involve a 2-day Pre-Conference training workshop at SEKU and three days conference at UMMA. The conference is expected to attract more than 150 participants, an excellent lineup of trainers and keynote speakers in various thematic areas. The conference is a premier event in dryland research, bringing together researchers and scientists from academia, governments and industry. The theme for the conference highlights the potential of prudent harnessing and management of dryland natural resources in driving social transformation.

The conference will provide a platform to address the big four government agenda, vision 2030, county CIDP goals and the global SDGs relevant to dryland environment.

We invite original contributions on topics (oral, poster or pitch presentations) related to Dryland research, including but not limited to:

  • Harnessing dryland resources to address the Kenyan government Big Four agenda
  • Devolution, transboundary conflict management in the changing world
  • Renewable energy
  • Climate smart innovations and technologies in the drylands
  • Dryland biodiversity and bio-prospecting
  • Green growth and wealth creation

  • Information and Communication technology in sustainable development of dryland resources
