The Chancellor, Dr. Abbas Gullet, the Board of Trustees Chairman Prof. Abdulghafur Busaidy and the University Council Chairman Dr. Abdulrehman Al-Muhailan are pleased to announce that the University Council has appointed Dr. Idle Omar Farah as the Vice Chancellor of Umma University. Dr. Farah has previously served as Chief Research Scientist and the Director General of the National Museums of Kenya (2003 to 2014) and Director of the Institute of Primate Research, a biomedical research institute (2002-2003). He has also served in several national and international platforms including the Commission for Higher Education (now Commission for University Education), 2004-2012, the International Board for the Centre for Heritage Development in Africa (2004-2014), the task force to set up the Kenya National Commission to UNESCO and the National Task Force to develop Guidelines on the use and care for laboratory animals in research.
Dr. Farah was a member of University Nairobi Council (2004-2012) and later as Chairman of the same Council (2013-2017) and Chairman of the University of Nairobi Enterprises Services (UNES). Dr. Farah was the founding Executive Director of the Frontier Counties Development Council (2015-2018), a caucus of 8 County Governments in Kenya.
Dr. Farah is an alumni of University of Nairobi (Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine) and Uppsala University, Sweden (PhD in Comparative Medicine). He is widely published with over 50 peer reviewed publications, supervised postgraduate students and a recipient of several awards and grants from local and international funding agencies.
